Pros: Long wearing, lovely sheer colored glossy balmy finish and feel

Cons: None

I love Yves Saint Laurent lipsticks ….the moisturizing formula on their Sheer Candy Glossy Lip Balm is no exception.  I like Tasty Rasberry, #12.  The colors are sheer, and work alone or over a lipstick you want to add more shine too.

How Long I Used: About a year.

How I Use: Alone or over a lipstick

My Rating: 5 out of 5

Reason for Rating: Even though pricey, with regular wear one tube lasted me four months.   It is a high quality product.

Pros: Didn’t cause breakouts, good makeup primer

Cons: Did not see improvement with long term use

I purchased this product at Macy’s.

How Long I Used: About 2 months

How I Use: Smooth a small amount all over face.

My Rating: 2 out of 5

Reason for Rating:  I did not find the product produced any improvement in my skin besides when I was wearing it.  It did work nicely as a primer that didn’t irritate my skin or cause a breakout.  However, I did not purchase the product as a primer but as skincare and it is pricey.

CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua

Pros: Oil free, long wearing, extremely natural finish, spf 15

Cons: none

I purchased this product at Nordstrom.  It is a water-based liquid foundation with a broad spectrum SPF of 15.

Prior to purchasing Vitalumière Aqua, I had not worn or even tried a liquid foundation for over ten years.  Powder foundations had proved to work much better for me with an oily t-zone and dry skin from rosacea.  I tried this foundation at the insistence of my hairdresser.  To try it out I had my makeup done at Nordstrom’s CHANEL counter, and loved it! The beige rose gives my skin a healthy natural glow and looks so natural!  I don’t feel or look like I’m wearing makeup.  The application is very easy whether you prefer using a foundation brush or your fingertips.  This foundation feels silky smooth going on, and dries to a light dewy finish.  If you are not limited to oil free products, CHANEL has additional foundations.

How Long I’ve Used: About 4 months

How I Use: I apply using either my fingertips or a foundation brush, both work well.  I use a concealer a shade lighter then my foundation to cover red areas first.  Sometimes I use a light dusting of CHANEL’s Double Perfection Lumière foundation powder to create a matte finish, or a heavier application for extra coverage.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

Reason for Rating: This is a high quality liquid foundation, is oil free, and has an spf.  Application is a breeze, and the shades and finish give a healthy natural glow to your face.

Dermalogica Overnight Clearing Gel

Pros: prevents breakouts, soothing

Cons: price

I was first introduced to Dermalogica at Toppers Spa, and since then have also purchased at Ulta and directly from Dermalogica.  I would describe this as a medium to heavy weight gel.  It is not a serum but a gel.  It glides onto your face easily and once applied feels somewhat cool and soothing.  It contains salicylic acid and there is no astringent or medicinal feel when applied.  It has a very faint scent (nothing artificial) that smells pleasant and fresh.  It is only meant for night time use.

I find this to be a very gentle but effective treatment for congested pores.  I use this primarily to prevent blackheads and breakouts.  I think it also helps keep pore size down if you are very congested.  For an active breakout, this does provide some overnight results.  What I notice are anti-inflammatory properties and a reduction in redness, reduction in size, and overall quicker time to complete healing. It is very gentle to your skin so you should not get flaky dried out skin as the breakout heals.  I definitely notice a difference if I go without this for a week or more.

Because of gel’s consistency, it may feel like you are applying too much at first.  However it feels thick because it is somewhat thick, not because you applied to much.  It can take a few minutes to dry, so I fan my face and it dries in seconds.

How Long I’ve Used: 7 years (on and off)

How I Use: About 3 times a week at night.  I usually apply to my whole face since I use as a maintenance product.

My Rating: 4 out of 5

Reason for Rating: I like this product because it is effective at preventing and treating blackheads and breakouts while being gentle enough not to aggravate my rosacea.  I knocked one point off for the price.  For me it is worth the cost, and I believe Dermalogica makes quality products with quality ingredients.  I’m unsure if this contains parabens as the ingredient list is not online nor on my bottle.

Dr Bronner’s Organic Shikakai Hand Soap

Please rate this product based on your own experience.  Comments regarding the product or product review are welcome.

Pros: paraben free, gentle on hands

Cons:  price

Using their castile soap as a base, Dr. Bronner’s adds some unique ingredients to create Dr. Bronner’s Organic Shikakai Hand Soap.  It comes unscented or in a variety of scents created with essential oils.

This soap leaves my hands feeling very soft.  I have used Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Soap as well and that left my skin feeling squeaky clean, very different from the soft finish you get with this formula.  This is not a concentrated soap like the pure castile soap.

I tried the Baby formula because it is unscented.  Dr Bronner’s scents are from true essential oils so they are less likely to spur a headache if you are scent sensitive like me.  I also prefer unscented or lemon for the kitchen sink so my hands are not scented when I‘m cooking.

How Long I’ve Used: About six weeks

How I Use:  Mostly as a hand soap but also nice as a body soap.

My Rating:  4 out of 5

Reason for Rating  Leaves my skin feeling great no matter how many times I wash my hands.  It is organic, paraben free, and has a nice lather.  Just wish it was a few dollars less.

Enzyme Cleansing Gel by Mario Badescu

Please rate this product based on your own experience.  Comments regarding the product or product review are welcome.

Pros: skin feels clean and balanced, price

Cons: contains parabens

I have purchased this item both from an Ulta store and directly from Mario Badescu online.  Their Enzyme Cleansing Gel is a non-foaming cleanser that uses fruit based alpha-hydroxy acids for non-abrasive exfoliation.

I need my facial cleanser to keep congested pores in check but if it’s too drying or abrasive it will irritate my rosacea.  This can be a hard balance to strike and certainly everyone’s skin care needs are unique.  I found this cleanser perfect for me as it struck that perfect balance of thoroughly cleaning without stripping or irritating my skin.  It is also effective at removing makeup, but I recommend washing two times if you use your cleanser to remove makeup – the first wash can be a lighter one.  This process is recommended by another skincare company, and I find that breaking the makeup barrier in this way leads to a much better cleanse.  If you are someone who has to have a lather to feel clean, this is not for you.

How Long I’ve Used: 13 months

How I Use:  Twice daily as a facial cleanser.  I use a two step cleansing process, meaning first I use something to remove my makeup and then cleanse.  If I use my cleanser to remove makeup then I wash twice, once for each step.

My Rating:  4 out of 5

Reason for Rating:  Despite the parabens, this cleanser ranks high for me because it was effective at keeping my congested skin clean without irritating my rosacea.  I also think the price is right.
